An acid-drenched girl became the face of a fashion brand

26-year-old Indian Lakshmi Avargal, whose appearance in 2005 was disfigured by a rejected fan, became the new representative of the brand Viva n Diva. The company filmed a girl in a commercial showing a line of women's clothing. The campaign was called Face of Courage (“Face of masculinity”).1

Lakshmi's life changed forever when she was 15 years old. She did not want to marry a 32-year-old man who showed his sympathy for her. The failed groom in a fit of anger splashed into the girl a mixture of toxic chemicals. A young beauty, drenched in acid, was miraculously saved from death, and her face, chest, and arms became disfigured.2

After the tragedy, Lakshmi managed not only to survive spiritually, but also to prove herself as an ardent defender of women who also became victims of acid attacks from rejected fans. And there are a lot of such people in the country. In the past five years alone, more than 150 messages have appeared in the local press.India is considered one of the leading countries in the number of crimes committed against the backdrop of unrequited love.3

During the year about a thousand violent attacks on girls are committed in the country. The authorities even had to restrict the free sale of sulfuric acid, but this does not stop proud men, as does the prospect of spending the rest of their lives in prison.4

The caretaker Lakshmi Avargal, like the rest of the criminals, was guided by the principle “So don't get to anyone.” But his plan didn't work. The girl has ceased to be disgusted with her body, happily living with her beloved man and raising children. And now she is also a successful model. The manufacturer of women's clothing Viva N Diva has challenged the lawlessness in India.5

“We presented beauty from a different angle. Our company is trying to expand the definition of style and fashion, which today focuses only on the ideal shell, without affecting the internal attractiveness. And we urge other manufacturers to create for these beautiful women, from whom they have stolen beauty, the opportunity to feel more confident, ”representatives of Viva N Diva said.
