Linda Tellington-Jones Method
How often from the owners of four-legged can be heard: “My dog shudders with every sharp sound, he hardly endures stress, is very overworked and may even show unjustified aggression. What to do with it - I'll never know. ”
There are many ways to overcome such problems. Let us dwell on one of them - on the methodology of an honorary doctor of philosophy, a veterinary physiotherapist with forty years of experience, a coach, teacher, winner of many awards and prizes Linda Tellington-Jones.
Its unique way of working with animals (originally with horses, and then with other animals), called TiTach, was developed in 1983.It provides an opportunity not only to relieve stress in dogs, allowing them to feel differently at home and in the classroom or walking, but also to build a more trusting relationship between humans and animals.
What is the technique?
What is the "miraculous" power of such a seemingly simple technique? Consider in order.
This method is based on circular massage touches to all parts of the dog’s body, as well as on other touch techniques and body language. As practice shows, during such sessions, four-legged patients acquire a state that is similar to a meditative one.
From the point of view of science, the mechanism of such a positive effect on the body is not yet sufficiently studied, but tests carried out on horses prove that during the TiTach session, four brain waves become active, which cannot be achieved with any other type of massage. By the way, the positive effect of the technique was observed in humans.
Surely you have noticed that many dogs love being scratched behind their ears. But how to use this observation in order to improve animal behavior and increase the level of trust in humans? Linda proposes to massage the ears as follows.
one.Use only soft circular motions with light pressure, either counterclockwise or in a specific pattern. The movement should start from below (from the number six on the clock) and make a circle or a quarter of the circle, stopping at number nine, while the skin moves with the fingers. The intensity of the pressure should not be very strong, it all depends on the circumstances - from slightly noticeable to very tangible (for example, in case of severe stress).
2. With one hand, hold the dog’s face, and with the other hand, circle the ear around the base.
3. Continue to massage the ear from the base to the tip, affecting the "point of shock."
Five minutes of such exercises, as a rule, are enough for the dog's nervous system to return to normal.
Another exercise used in this technique is the so-called bandaging or swaddling of dogs. It represents the imposition of an elastic bandage on the body of the dog, which contributes to a more sensitive feeling of his body, and as a result - confidence in movements and behavior. A wonderful technique to relieve stress in dogs.
The following video demonstrateshow to bandage a dog to calm it down:
Caution: do not overtighten the bandage, otherwise it will not bring anything to your petexcept discomfort. At first, swaddling should be light and short, so that the skin under the bandage does not rot and rub. If the dog is too insecure, then you should not stretch the bandages between the hind legs.
The owners who use this technique, note a significant strengthening of the psyche of their dogs, improved behavior and well-being during walks, training and staying at home.
To date, more than 1,300 veterinarians in different countries of the world practice using the method of Linda Tellington-Jones.
Try it yourself - and you will succeed!
