Repentance of their sins
Repentance of sins- A necessary step on the path to God. The Bible says that there will be more joy in heaven about one repentant sinner than ninety-nine righteous people.
What is repentance? A distinction should be made between repentance and remorse for actions committed.
Repentance is reconciliation with God, agreement with his holy laws and the intention not to return to the sins committed. There can be remorse for pride when it is difficult for a person to come to terms with the fact that he, who is so good, has committed such an unworthy act.
Remorse and guilt feelings are not identical to repentance of sins, although they can be a stage on the way to it.
Also, one should not confuse the fear of punishment, which, in fact, is the fear of the torments of hell with repentance. The last is always a joyful meeting with God, an appeal to Him.
Best of all, the relationship between God and the repentant sinner is shown in the parable of the prodigal son. He led a rampant, undignified life, squandered all his wealth and returned to his father with nothing. He was ready to eat food with the pigs and hardly hoped for forgiveness.
How did father behave? He saw his beloved child, which brought him so much suffering, threw everything and ran towards him with open arms. Not having reproached him with a word, he gave a big feast in his honor.
According to the saints, the parable only faded reflects God's love for man. The Lord greets the person returning to Him with the same joy. Repentant sins go into oblivion. And they live only in the memory of the sinner, protecting him in the future from such mistakes and recalling the infinite mercy of God, which covers all possible sins.
A man who yearns for repentance of sins should never doubt the infinite mercy of the Lord. Man’s sins are like a handful of sand thrown into a sea of mercy and love. After all, the Lord does not want a man to be punished, but is waiting for correction from him.
Repentance is an inner spiritual work. In order to be fully realized, a person should participate in the sacrament of confession. The priest, as a witness of repentance of sins, which a person brings to God, has the ability to absolve sins. After a sincere confession, a person should not doubt that he is forgiven.
Repentance is fully accomplished if the person no longer returns to the deed.
